The marque unveils their most powerful sportscar yet

When we think of Ferrari it’s impossible not to associate the brand with supercars of stunning speed. Their famous Prancing Horse has long been a symbol of extreme agility on the track and ultimate luxury, and the brand itself has become synonymous with unmatched performance, facts which seem unlikely to change anytime soon with the introduction of the Ferrari 812 Superfast.

First unveiled to an adoring public at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, the Ferrari 812 Superfast is quite simply the most impressive vehicle that marque has ever created. An extreme performance V12 Berlinetta, the new vehicle has been specifically designed to appeal to those demanding the most powerful and exclusive vehicle possible. Uncompromising in terms of performance and aesthetics, the car is ideal for the track and the road, its powers adapting to suit your driving style so that it’s as accessible as it is extraordinary.

First of all, from just a glance you can tell that this is one Ferrari not to be trifled with. A sleek scarlet beast that is streamlined and powerful, every single feature of the vehicle has been designed to superfast and yet still glamorous, eschewing the ultra modern silhouettes that some marques have ventured towards and instead combining a classic feel with futuristic technology and features. Launched in the new Rosso Settanta colour which was specifically used to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the company and designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the car is exactly what you would expect from a Ferrari of ultimate calibre – stunning from even the briefest of glances.

Venturing inside, and the interior of the 812 Superfast has been revisited in line with the more extreme exterior whilst maintaining the exceptional on-board comfort and space that Ferrari’s front-engined V12 berlinettas have always had. The cabin has been given a sportier, more radical look with the main elements seeming to float, creating an effect of lean elegance, whilst the horizontal dash loops stylishly around the central air vents for a sophisticated, sculptural look.

New and sportier ergonomic seats feature alongside the new HMI, including new steering wheel and instrument clusters and the latest infotainment and air-conditioning units for a comfortable and exhilarating final effect – meaning no matter if you’re racing along the track or simply taking it easy on the roads that you’ll always feel comfortable and in control.

Of course, what Ferrari has truly always been about is power. Ushering in a new era of performance and top speeds, the engine of this roaring beast is the most exciting feature. A 6.5 litre V12 that unleashes 800 cv, the 812 Superfast has set a new benchmark in the mid-front-engined sports car segment, achieving a maximum power output at 8,500 rpm - a figure that no other front-engined production car has ever come close to producing and which has become one of the defining features of Ferrari’s V12 heritage.

Underscored by a rich exhaust that growls with the clout we would expect from such a speedy beast, the car has a maximum torque of 718 Nm at 7,000 rpm a significant portion of which is available at 3,500 rpm which improves driveability and pick-up even at lower revs.  How Ferrari managed to achieve this is by adopting a 350 bar direct injection system for the very first time on a high performance engine and pairing it with variable geometry intake tracts conceptually derived from those of naturally aspirated Formula One engines.  Furthermore, The 812 Superfast’s dual-clutch transmission has specific gear ratios which, combined with shorter up and down-shifting times between gears, sharpen throttle response further still, making the 812 Superfast a remarkably responsive and visceral car to drive.

As well as one of the most powerful engines to be created the car has also been fitted with a host of new features by Ferrari, instantly elevating it to a machine that is so much more than just a superfast speedster. Equipped with leading-edge control systems and components, the 812 Superfast offers drivers unparalleled handling and roadholding. The first Ferrari to be equipped with EPS (Electric Power Steering) this feature helps the car achieve its full potential and ease of performance through the complete integration with all of the electronic vehicle dynamics controls, (including the latest version of Slide Slip Control) meaning that the 812 Superfast’s powerful performance is even easier to handle and more thrilling along the way.

For the first time the vehicle controls also feature the Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 system (PCV) which, following the experience gained with the F12tdf, features a further evolution of the software that improves the nimbleness of the handling and reduces the vehicle response times even further.

A stunning new chapter for Ferrari that exceeds expectations not only in speed but also in sheer sophistication, the 812 Superfast is a vehicle that has taken the Prancing Horse to the next level of motoring magnificence and enters the scene this year as a car that is nothing less than truly inspirational. After all, being the fastest Ferrari ever built is no small honour, and the 812 Superfast is certainly a beast that deserves to be respected.
